We’re currently looking for a  Performance Engineer with strong computer science fundamentals including algorithms, data structures, distributed computing, strong programming background and passion for solving complex performance problems to join our team in Redwood City, California.  

Job Summary 

As our Performance Engineer in the Core Technology group, you will be responsible for designing and building the next generation platform for delivering high performant metadata platform services and data engine features that handle volume, velocity and variety of structured and unstructured data.  In the role of Senior Software Engineer, you must be able to work and adapt in a fluid, fast-paced environment. Working as the Senior Software Engineer you must have strong technical, communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.

Day-to-day Duties? Here's What You'll Be Doing

• Design prototype solutions to optimize algorithms & implement scalable product features
• Actively engage with architects to brainstorm solutions to complex performance problems.
• Implement ML driven modules to build efficient & reliable Auto Tuning solutions.
• Define, Design & Develop integration use cases based on design specifications
• Publish internal & external benchmarks, white papers and best practices documents
• Code/Build and publish critical Emergency Bug Fixes (EBFs)
• Design & develop internal productivity improvement tools/utilities
• Collaborate with product management to define performance success criteria.
• Use resource monitoring & appropriate performance profiling tools to isolate the root cause.

Key Essentials

• Strong programming skills in Java.
• 2 or more years of enterprise software development experience
• Experience with Java SDK, design patterns, persistence frameworks, REST, Kubernetes, micro-services
• Experience with performance profiling tools
• Able to drive innovation to create and improve product, process and technology.
• Proficiency in designing, developing, and debugging distributed systems
• Able to work independently with little direct supervision and take initiative; willing to mentor and develop others
• Ability to articulate ideas effectively through verbal and written communication
• Proven ability to work well with diverse groups in a fast-paced agile, iterative product definition and development environment
• BS in Computer Science 

Nice to have skills

• Exposure to Scala and Python are desirable.
• Experience with Hadoop/Kubernetes, Spark, Cloud ecosystems (AWS, Azure, etc.)
• Experience of working with system performance monitoring tools (Ex. sar, vmstat, iostat, netstat, top etc.).
• Knowledge of database internals such as query optimizations, experience with developing performance and highly scalable server-side multi-threaded applications.
• Advanced degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline
