Meet Michael Shanley, EMEA Principal Legal Counsel, Labor and Employment

For several years I was general Counsel with a large utility company operating in the electricity and waste management sectors in Ireland & Uk.  I then worked as Global Employment & Commercial Senior Legal Counsel with ION Trading a financial services software company.  Whilst skiing in France last February, I noticed the Informatica role and whilst I wasn’t really planning on making a move at that stage, I updated the cv and made the application.  Once I met with Maura Brady Sharp, Staurt Robson, Kiki Haar & Brad Lewis, the decision to join was an easy one.  Informatica really is a great place to work and the small turnover of employees is testimony to that fact.  Like any lawyer, I keep on looking for the downside but there just isn’t one to working here.  The super HR colleagues across the region make my job an easy one.

What do you enjoy most about working at Informatica? 

It may sound trite but the culture in Informatica is really unique.  It is a professional, hardworking environment with a positive approach to the work-life balance.  This flexibility is what keeps people and it comes from the top down.


Tell us three things most people don’t know about you.

  1. Everyone knows I have three super children, and family is very important to me
  2. I’m fiercely competitive in sport and I have two All-Ireland medals for Gaelic football
  3. I tutor in employment law at the Law Society of Ireland

If you could be any superhero, who would you be and why?

A guy of my vintage couldn’t really go for the newer ‘Superhero’s’ and I really must go for the Christopher Reeves’ - Superman.  I remember (yes, I have a good memory) looking forward with such excitement to seeing the Superman films as a child and the work his foundation has done for spinal injuries is immense.  He was a superman on and off the screen.

What advice would you give to job seekers looking to join Informatica?

I would advise a candidate that being capable for the job is only one aspect and the cultural fit is just as important in Informatica.  The candidate should please, therefore, just be themselves and show personality in any interviews.  Informatica is a place which encourages diversity and inclusion.  It welcomes people of different races, ethnicities, genders, ages, religions, disabilities, and sexual orientations.  I would welcome all applicants.
