Position Title: Regional Controller

Your Opportunity

You’ll be a key driver for revenue integrity activities. You will also be the “go-to” person for the sales team and assist them in processing and analysing license and partner renewal contracts. In doing so you will ensure that team members meet their revenue goals within requirements set for the proper stewardship of the organization.

 You will also provide revenue recognition support and maintain revenue controls. As the source of reliable revenue data, our company management, finance staff, and independent auditors will turn to you for insight and information that are the underpinnings of the financial practice at Informatica.

 This role reports to the Senior Finance Director - Asia Pacific Japan.

Main Responsibilities:

 Business Partnership

  • Deal structuring support and revenue recognition guidance. Partner with the business by providing first line revenue recognition support. Help determine local VSOE, consulting business models, support, education and license and pricing structures and implications and sales order requirements compliance.
  • Pre-emptive contract review to identify areas that need revenue recognition attention
  • Management reporting and analysis – provide local management with P&L guidance. Specifically, provide weekly/quarterly report pack on performance and Sales pipeline reporting and analysis. Provide analysis and guidance on expenses.
  • Planning - assist both local and corporate management with strategic planning to take Japan business to a higher growth level.
  • Monitor - communicate closely with regional Finance Director and our corporate headquarters to ensure full transparency of all transactions and activities in Japan
  • Growth – provide assessment/support on growth prospects in region. Prepare finance analysis for request to open new offices in the region. Prior experience with Indonesia and Malaysia an advantage.
  • Professional services support – understand and support services business – especially on contract and reporting side. Some prior experience here would be an advantage.
  • Projects – work with Japan department heads on projects to ensure Japan best utilisation of resources.
  • General Accounting
  • Financial statements – prepares and oversees the monthly financial statements according to US GAAP for JAPAN. Work closely with shared service center (SSC) and an external accountant to ensure completeness and smoothness of close.  Prepare a monthly close package/checklist to ensure all closing activities have been completed accurately.
  • General Accounting - Specific general accounting and accounting duties include:
  • Work on moving transactional functions to India SSC with oversight to be performed by Japan Finance Manager
  • Commissions – high level review to ensure no significant over or under payments. Prepare and manage commission and bonus accruals.
  • Inter Company transactions (including transfer pricing) – calculate quarterly transactions and facilitate payment/funding.
  • Controls – ensure local expense procedures are communicated and followed by all employees, ensure Sarbanes Oxley and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act procedures and requirements are reviewed regularly and the procedures are followed and effective.
  • Other – implement/create new policies and procedures as required.
  • System upgrades where required

 Treasury & Tax

  • Tax - Deal with all local tax issues (including annual returns (via service provider), VAT compliance, payroll tax)
  • Bank Accounts – provide oversight and control over bank accounts to ensure disbursements made according to company policy. 
  • Reviews reconciliations as part of monthly close process.  Provides headquarters with cash projections on a monthly basis.

 Required Skills

  • Qualified Accountant in Japan with at least 5 years Post Qualified Experience
  • Experience in working in multi-national companies
  • Revenue recognition understanding. Experience with negotiating revenue recognition and commercial clauses for customer and third party agreements an advantage.
  • ERP and BI reporting tool experience. We use PeopleSoft, Microstrategy BI and Salesforce
  • Ability to be self-sufficient and work in a team environment
  • Customer focus and ability to support the Sales team in a dynamic environment
  • Hands on, good attention to detail, accurate reporting skills
  • Local tax knowledge would be good but not essential
  • Strong US GAAP understanding
