You will have the opportunity to help manage legal aspects of our relationships with customers, vendors and partners and to ensure our compliance with general data privacy and other industry-specific regulations and standards.
Location in Austin TX or Cary NC preferred.
Our Ideal Candidate-
You have proven experience working with internal clients to implement legal requirements and policies. You have solid experience with legal aspects of cloud software development and contracting and data privacy including GDPR. You are a communicator and solution-oriented lawyer who can think proactively and strategically to identify, prioritize and analyze issues while not compromising on critical risk standards. You can accurately and realistically assess and mitigate risk with judgment and business acumen. You require little supervision and proactively engage with team members and stakeholders from around the company to coordinate and optimize process efficiency.
Your Responsibilities:
- Helping to develop, implement, and maintain the company’s global data protection program.
- Working with outside attorneys and with internal and external technologists on data privacy and security matters.
- Monitoring changes in data privacy and protection laws and regulations globally and provide legal advice regarding implications for the company.
- Developing and delivering internal client education and counseling for data privacy and other software-related issues.
- Guiding business in privacy by design and supporting data protection impact assessments
- Investigating allegations of regulatory breaches
- Taking the lead on development and negotiation of a variety of major or custom contract types including customer and vendor contracts, technology interoperability and joint development agreements, data processing agreements, and business associate agreements
- Counseling management and other departments with creative, interdisciplinary legal advice with a focus on software development and government and regulatory compliance.
- Supporting a large group of internal clients who require quick but carefully reasoned legal and commercial judgment.
Your Qualifications:
- Currently licensed lawyer with Juris Doctorate from a leading accredited law school.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of legal experience, including experience in corporate transactional and regulatory counseling and commercial contract negotiation.
- Strong team player with excellent skill in collaboration across business functions and driving teams to decision and implementation.
- Knowledge of and experience with data processing agreements, business associate agreements, and other contacts related to data privacy.
- Working knowledge of compliance obligations under US, Canada, EU, and Asia/Pacific data privacy and protection regulations including HIPAA, CASL, GDPR, and Privacy Shield
- Ability to communicate effectively with people having widely varying knowledge in legal/regulatory, technical, and business issues.
- Willingness to learn and apply expertise in new subject matter
